BBBC votes on closer ties with RSA

Wednesday April 19, 2017 - A Special General Meeting (SGM) of the Browns Bay Bowling Club (BBBC) last night voted overwhelmingly to explore forming a closer relationship with the East Coast Bays RSA (RSA) through an initial short term leasing arrangement at the BBBC.

A large number of members turned up to the BBBC SGM to vote and/or express their views on the motion being proposed. Following a presentation, discussion centred on understanding more about the proposal, ensuring the BBBC would not be financially disadvantaged by any arrangement entered into with the RSA, and that a finite term be stipulated in any short term leasing agreement.

This would enable both parties to see how they worked together, explore more formal long term options and give them both the ability to withdraw if the relationship was not working. It was felt that 6 months was an appropriate timeframe for this.

The original motion put to the membership was:

“That the club supports the East Coast Bays RSA moving to the Browns Bay Bowling Club premises and operating out of the main clubroom facilities under a short-term tenancy arrangement.”

Following discussions and feedback from those in attendance, the motion was amended and was unanimously passed as follows:

“That the club supports the East Coast Bays RSA moving to the Browns Bay Bowling Club premises and operating out of the main clubroom facilities under a short-term monthly tenancy arrangement for a maximum of 6 months, provided the club is not financially disadvantaged by entering into this arrangement .”

The BBBC SGM was held ahead of the RSA SGM which is this Sunday. The RSA is exploring several different options for its future having sold its building in Bute Road, and moving  to the BBBC is one of these.

The BBBC and RSA have been key participants in the current feasibility study being undertaken on establishing a Sporting & Community Facilities Hub at Browns Bay. The initial findings of the study are expected to be released later this month or early May and will provide a possible blueprint for the future development of the hub.

Copies of the presentation given at the BBBC SGM are available to all members and can be requested by emailing bbbc@xtra.co.nz.  Full minutes will also be circulated in due course.
