Sunday April 23, 2017 - The East Coast Bays RSA has today voted unanimously to join forces with the Brown's Bay Bowling Club.
Following on from a BBBC SGM on Tuesday which unanimously supported the RSA moving to the club and operating out of the main clubroom facilities under a short term tenancy arrangement, a well-attended RSA SGM has also overwhelmingly voted to support the proposal. The options in front of the RSA following the conditional sale of its building in Bute Road were to either open a branch office (akin to the Auckland RSA), move to the Bays Club or look to join forces with the bowling club.
Further updates on steps from here will be communicated to both memberships as details are finalised but it is expected the transition will start within the next four weeks. Working groups from both clubs will be meeting later this week to put the wheels in motion and work on transition planning.
This is an exciting new era for both organisations that should protect their heritage while at the same time providing a sustainable future. It also paves the way for a much wider community and facilities sporting hub at Brown's Bay that becomes a focal point for the local community.
